Ans. Jam making is an important occupation in the mountain states as lots of fruits like apricots, plums,peachs and apples are grown there.

2. What is alluvium? Why is it important  ?

Ans. Alluvium is a mixture of silt and gravel  spread over the plains. Northern plains are formed of alluvium and are very fertile. 

3. Why do you think houses in the mountain regions have sloping roof  ?

Ans. Houses in the mountain regions have sloping roofs so that snow can slide off them.

4. Give two ways in which Chandigarh is different from other cities. 

Ans. It is the capital of two states.

It is also the first planned city in India. 

5. What does the name Punjab mean ? Name the rivers from which it gets its name. 

Ans. The name Punjab means ‘five waters ‘. The rivers are Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, Beas and Satluj.

6. Why does Delhi have many government buildings  ?

Ans. Delhi has many government buildings as it is the capital of our country. It also has a state government.
