1. Write two or three sentences to explain what natural vegetation means .

Ans. In certain areas plants grow naturally without anyone’s care. They are called natural vegetation. It depends on the kind of land,kind of weather and the height of the land.

2. What are 3 divisions of Himalayas? Name 3 ways in which the Himalayas are useful.

Ans. The 3 divisions of Himalayas are Himadri,Himachal and Shiwalik. Three ways in which Himalayas are useful are :

* They prevent cold wind blowing from north over India. 

* The Himalayas help rain to fall on the Indian sub continent. 

* Snow from the mountain melts in summer and are sources for many rivers. 

3. Write four sentences to describe the Northern plains. 

Ans. Northern plains are located to the south of Himalayas. They have Pakistan in the west and Bangladesh on the east.Many large rivers flow through the plains.  They have very fertile soil called alluvium. 

4. How are coral islands formed ?

Ans. Coral islands are formed from the hard skeletons of tiny sea animals that piled up for thousands of years. The action of wind and waves breaks down the coral into sand.

5. Why do Andaman and Nicobar islands have thick forests  ?

Ans. As it rains a lot there, Andaman and Nicobar islands have thick forests.
