Algebraic expression
Algebraic expressions represents mathematical ideas and operations in a short way using symbols and variables.
Eg: 3a2+4b2-7
-
Constant is a symbol in algebra which has a fixed value.
Eg: 8,-7,etc
-
A symbol which can be assigned different numerical values is called a variable.
Eg: a,b,c…..x,y,z
-
A term is an arithmetic number, letter, group of letters or group composed of an arithmetic number and letters which are joined by multiplication or division
Eg: in the algebraic expression 5x+7y, 5x and 7 y are called terms.
-
In a term the number factor of a product is the numerical coefficient and the letter factor variable of a product is the literal coefficient.
Eg: in the term 45a2b, 45 is the numerical coefficient and a2b is called literal coefficient.
-
Like terms or similar terms are terms which have the same literal factors.
Eg:5a,-7a,57a
-
Unlike terms are those which have different literal factors.
Eg: 5xy,56y,5a
-
Monomial is an algebraic expression of one term.
-
Binomial is an algebraic expression of two terms.
-
Trinomial is an algebraic expression of three terms.
-
A polynomial is an algebraic expression of two or more terms
